The adoption of zero-trust security strategies is on the rise, with 82% of experts currently implementing such measures and 16% planning to do so within the next 18 months, according to a survey by Beyond Identity. The 2022 Federal Zero Trust Strategy was cited as a primary motivator by over 90% of those working on zero trust. When asked about the necessary authentication capabilities for zero trust, 53% of respondents highlighted the importance of codeless capability. Passwordless authentication and device-specific security thresholds were also deemed crucial.
The survey revealed that 92% of cybersecurity professionals consider zero trust as their preferred security approach, with 65% believing it to be very or extremely effective in protecting businesses and users. Industries such as banking, financial services, and insurance, as well as small businesses, were identified as most suited for a transition to zero trust due to their exposure to internal and external threats.
While in-person work settings were rated as the best place to implement these security measures, the rise of remote and hybrid work underscores the need for remote zero-trust processes. To convince organizations to adopt zero trust, 59% of respondents suggested explaining the basic concept, while 57% recommended outlining threats to data privacy under the current security framework. The findings underscore the growing recognition of zero trust as the future of cybersecurity.
