Michael D. Mihalo, also known as Dale Michael Mihalo Jr. and ggmccloud1, has pleaded guilty in a Missouri court to operating a darknet carding site and selling financial information belonging to thousands of victims in the country. His accomplice, Taylor Ross Staats, earned at least $21,000 in Bitcoin for services as a “card checker” verifying the validity of the stolen data. Mihalo made over $1 million in cryptocurrencies from the schemes and faces up to 10 years in prison for one count of conspiracy to commit access device fraud, one count of access device fraud and six counts of money laundering. He has also been ordered to forfeit all the illicit proceeds. The U.S. Department of Justice has also recently shut down Try2Check, a Russian platform used to confirm stolen credit card information.
