Meta identified and removed hundreds of fake accounts on Facebook and Instagram which were being used by three different Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) to target individuals in South Asia. These accounts posed as recruiters, journalists, and military personnel and were used to deceive people into clicking on malicious links and downloading malware. Meta also identified and removed six networks from the United States, Venezuela, Iran, China, Georgia, Burkina Faso, and Togo that were engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior on social media platforms. Microsoft has revealed that since June 2022, Iranian state-aligned actors have been increasingly relying on cyber-enabled influence operations to target Israel, Bahrain, and France.
