Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered three weaknesses in version 8.4 of FRRouting, a popular open source internet routing protocol suite, which could be exploited to create a denial-of-service (DoS) condition on vulnerable BGP peers. Forescout Vedere Labs’ analysis of seven different implementations of BGP revealed the flaws, which are currently being used by vendors such as NVIDIA Cumulus, DENT, and SONiC. To reduce the risk posed by vulnerable BGP implementations, Forescout has released an open source tool to test security and detect new flaws. In the weeks prior, ESET also reported that secondhand routers were storing sensitive data, creating a potential risk of cyberattack.
