Taiwanese PC manufacturer, MSI, has confirmed a cyber attack on its systems, after detecting “network anomalies.” The company did not provide any further details regarding the nature of the attack or if any proprietary information was exfiltrated. The incident did not significantly impact the company’s financial business, and MSI has resumed normal operations. As part of its incident response, the company has enhanced controls of its network and infrastructure to ensure data security. MSI is also advising its users to download firmware/BIOS updates only from its official website and refrain from downloading files from other sources. The announcement follows the recent ransomware attack on the company by the Money Message gang. This threat actor utilises a double extortion technique that involves exfiltrating the victim’s data before encrypting it. The group adds the data on their leak site if the ransom is unpaid. Acer, another Taiwanese PC manufacturer, also experienced a breach last month, resulting in the theft of confidential data.
To mitigate these potential threats, it is important to implement additional cybersecurity measures with the help of a trusted partner like INFRA www.infrascan.net
